The dharna by the Lower Suktel Action Committee, which is
spearheading the agitation demanding execution of the irrigation project,
entered the fourth day on Thursday.
President of Samajwadi Party Balangir district unit Arun
Mishra said, “Yesterday we had given 48 hours to the district administration to
discuss with us on the issue. So far, nobody from the administration has come
forward to talk with us. Unless the administration holds discussion with us, we
may resort to further methods of agitation, for which the Government will be
held responsible.”
He alleged that the ruling BJD, which made the Lower
Suktel Project an election plank, has now forgotten its promise. Leaders of
several opposition parties of the district are also showing less enthusiasm
towards the issue, Mishra alleged further.
On Wednesday, members of the Zilla Adivasi Kalyan Sangh
led by BK Singhbhoi also supported the agitation.
