Normal life in Balangir town was affected following heavy rains on Wednesday evening, resulting in bringing down the daily temperature and causing waterlogging. In the main market, there was accumulation of rainwater with commuters having a hard time.
Recently, the National Highway authorities had undertaken a drive to remove encroachments and constructed drains. As a result, a tube-well, which was earlier on the roadside, has been merged in the drain. According to reports, an under-construction bridge over river Rahul in Gudvella block was washed away in the first spate of floodwaters. As a result, road communications to three panchayats of the block were cut off.
