After the leaders of the Lower Suktel Action Committee were
arrested on Tuesday, the rasta roko agitation continued on Wednesday demanding
their unconditional release.
The blockade of the Barpudgia-Balangir-Patnagarh road, 15
km from here, since morning brought the vehicular traffic to a grinding halt.
According to reports, several residents of Khuntpali,
Badtelenpali, Koindapali, Podmund and other villages participated in the Rasta
Roko at Barpudgia demanding unconditional release of LSAC leaders Gopaljie Panigrahi,
Arun Mishra and others, who were taken to jail for blocking the road at
different places on Tuesday in support of the demand for execution of the Lower
Suktel Irrigation Project.
Pangrahi, who did not take food in protest of his arrest,
was administered glucose water at the Town police station on Tuesday evening
and continued his fast.
RDC of Northern Division Kishore Chandra Barik and IG RP
Koche visited the Balangir jail and held discussion with Panigrahi, who then
agreed to end his fast.
According to sources, the arrested leaders were likely to
be released from the jail by Wednesday evening. An all-party meeting is
scheduled be held on Thursday to chart out the next course of the agitation.
