Members of the Town Congress led by Asim Patnaik and others staged
a dharna before the National Highway division office here on Wednesday
demanding immediate construction of bypass road to ease traffic congestion.
NH 26 and NH 57 pass through Balangir
town with heavy vehicles rumbling through the town day and night, causing
a lot of problems to normal traffic and causing accidents.
“We demand immediate construction of
bypass road to ease the congestion. The Government should have constructed the
bypass road much earlier facilitating passage for heavy vehicles and made
arrangements for the rehabilitation of displaced shop keepers,” Patnaik said.
He alleged that due to apathy of the
State Government, the proposal is not progressing. “Unless the Government
takes immediate action in this regard, it will be held responsible for
the situation that mat arise in future,” he warned.
National Highway, Balangir Assistant
Engineer Damodar Chhatria said, “I am aware of the dharna. But survey on the
proposed bypass has been completed and it is with the Government of India. No
further communications has come to us in this regard.”
