TRIBALS TO GHERAO B’NGIR DM OFFICE ON
SEPT 9

The Paschima Odisha Adivasi Kalyana Mahasangha on Wednesday
threatened to gherao the Balangir district Collector’s office on September 9
and the State Assembly later to press for their various demands.
“We
will gherao the Collectorate and the State Assembly seeking strong action
against fake tribal caste certificate holders, an inquiry into tribal fund
diversion and protection to 22,500 tribal students studying in the KISS in
Bhubaneswar,” Mahasangha secretary Nirajan Bishi said.
Alleging
that students are not getting quality education and due protection in the
Tribal Welfare High Schools run by the State Government, Bishi argued that they
(tribal students) have been forced to study in the KISS. “While KISS is
providing quality education to 22,500 tribal students free of cost, why the
State Government will sit silent and not provide protection to them,” Bisi
wanted to know.
He
further alleged that even though the Centre is giving a lot of money for
tribals’ development under various schemes, the State is utilizing such funds
for beautification of capital city Bhubneshwar. “We demand a CBI probe into the
alleged diversion of tribal funds,” he said.
He
also alleged that the State Government has provided jobs meant for tribals to
others and is not taking any action against the employees who have got
Government jobs producing fake tribal certificates.
