The
Patnagarh block administration has landed in a controversy by providing halfhearted
information to a RTI applicant under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
According to reports, on July 22,
2014, one Krushna Chandra Banchhor of Ghunghutipali in Patnagarh block had
sought an information from the Patnagarh block Public Information Officer (PIO)
on the total number of old age pension (OAP) beneficiaries in Deolgaon gram
panchayat, details of persons above the age group 80 and number of elders
waiting for OAP, details of reported theft of OAP money in May 2014 in the gram
panchayat.
He also deposited `36 as directed by
the concerned authorities to get the information.
“On September 8, I got the
information. However, much to my surprise I was simply supplied one page
information by the Patnagarh block PIO whereas in the information sheet it was
clearly mentioned that the list of OAP beneficiaries have been attached. There
was no such list attached with the information sheet,” said the applicant.
While the reply further mentioned
that the FIR lodged by Deolgaon gram panchyat Executive Officer has been
attached along with passbook but nothing such was there, added Banchhor.
The RTI reply however admitted that
the old age pension has not been given to beneficiaries in May 2014 in the
panchayat. Meanwhile, dissatisfied with the reply, the applicant appealed to
the district level appellate authority, DRDA PD for further information.
