Acting
on a complaint filed by rights activist Dilip Das, the National Human Rights

an action-taken report (ATR) over the injury of a eight-year-old student after
he came contact with live wires on the roof of the school building at Nadupala
in Khaprakhol block in Balangir district within four weeks.
According to the petition,
on August, 25 this year, one Debendra Sethi (8) a student of Nadupala primary
school was playing with his friends at the roof of the school building and came
in contact with the live 11 KV wires passing over the building at a very low
height and sustained severe burn injuries. He was taken to Patnagarh hospital
immediately and afterwards shifted to VSS Medical College Burla for better
treatment.
“It is a gross negligence
on the part of the electricity department officials not complying with the
guidelines issued by the Government to shift all the electric wires from the
premises of the schools and Anganwadi centres. Moreover, the 108 Ambulance
vehicle of the Health department did not came to the rescue of the victim baby
despite repeated requests and phone calls from the parents of the injured
child, who were compelled to hire a vehicle and shifted the child to hospital,”
Das pointed out.
