Noted social activist Prafulla
Samantara has demanded a special package for Balangir district to end distress
migration and to ensure improvement of living standard of poor distress
migrants. He was speaking at a rally at Kantabanji organised by the Shramik
Adhikar Manch and the Zindabad Sangathan to mark the World Human Rights Day on
Wednesday.
Among others, Trilochan Pujni and Arun Mishra spoke
on the issue of human rights and urged the Government to take steps to ensure
human rights of distressed migrants, tribals and bonded labourers. A 16-point
charter of memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister was submitted to the
Kantabanji Teshildar. Later, Samantara inaugurated an office of the Sukbashi
Sangha. Members of the Sangha, in the presence of advocate Bishnu Sharma and
others, pointed out that even though the Sukbashis (landless people) of
Balangir district have got land from the Government, till today they have not
got the Final Record of Rights (RoR) due to official apathy, for which they are
facing various problems.
