TAKE STEPS TO MEET
DROUGHT IN 27 DISTS’
Saturday, 06 December 2014 | PNS | BALANGIR | in Bhubaneswar
Balangir MP Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo on Monday urged the Union
Government to implement the disaster management policy effectively
to tackle drought-like situation in 27 districts of Odisha.
Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha, the BJD member said 27 out
of 30 districts have received less than 56 per cent rain this year, which would
result in crop loss and migration.
The worst sufferer would be landless agriculture farmers and
people from socially underprivileged communities, including dalits.
Unless preventive measures like strengthening of irrigation
network, better watershed management, improvement in infrastructure and
implementation of
disaster management policy are not undertaken beforehand in
these districts, people would suffer a lot, Singhdeo added.
