Addressing mediapersons here, Leader
of Opposition Narasingha Mishra said the State Government needs to start fresh
land acquisition and pay rehab package as per the new Land Land Acquisition
Policy, 2013 if it sincerely wants that the Lower Suktel irrigation project
takes off.
“The lower Suktel irrigation project
in Balangir district has remained incomplete thanks to apathy of the State
Government. In view of the new Land Acquisition Policy of 2013, unless
the Government starts fresh land acquisition work and gives compensation
according to the new rules, the Suktel project cannot take off,” Mishra said.
All the proceedings in 29 villages of
the Suktel project area have lapsed and the Government cannot do the work there
without fresh proceedings, Mishra pointed out.
Mishra also quoted provisions of new
land acquisition law to prove his point as to why its implementation is
necessary. Mishra also lamented the absence of Balangir MP in the RPDAC meeting
which was held after seven years in the district.
