BALANGIR SP OFFICE RUNS SANS CCTV

Even as the State Government is making claims of modernising the State police to effectively deal with criminal activities and the law and order situation, a quick look at the office of the Balangir district Superintendent of Police reveals a different story.
The SP office, which deals with all sorts of criminal and Maoist activities, has nothing except an old building with a few traditional facilities. Being considered as the most vital office of the district, the office is functioning without a CCTV facility.
Interestingly, on March 12, Balangir district Collector M Muthukumar inaugurated the CCTV surveillance system at private bus stand and hoped that its footage would be helpful in tacking criminal incidents and illegal migration. Moreover, the Balangir Municipality was recently contemplating a project to install CCTV at its office to keep a tab on the movement of employees.
“If CCTV facility can be set up at private bus stand and others shops, how such an important workplace like the SP office is derived of the CCTV surveillance system,” said a local.
