Former Congress MP Sarat Pattnaik has
condemned the racist remarks of Minister Giriraj Singh against Congress
president Sonia Gandhi. Speaking to The Pioneer here, Pattnaik said the racist
remarks by the BJP leader shows the party’s attitude towards women and people
of the nation.
“Sonia Gandhi has sacrificed a lot
during her life time and has been guiding the Congress party. After the death
of her husband late Rajiv Gandhi, who sacrificed his life for nation, Sonia
Gandhi has struggled a lot to bring the Congress party into power,” said the
former Balangir MP. The BJP leaders are trying to divide the people by making
derogatory and irresponsible statements, he further alleged. Pattnaik further
said that mere expression of regret is not enough, the Minister should resign
from his post.
The Khariar unit of the Youth
Congress staged a rally at Khariar of Nuapada district on Wednesday to condemn
the controversial remarks on Congress Ppresident Sonia Gandhi by Union Minister
Giriraj Singh. Hundreds of Youth Congress members took out a procession from
the Congress office and proceeded up to the Police Square, where they burnt an
effigy of Giriraj Singh. The rally was led by State Youth Congress secretary
Kamal Charan Tandi.

Youth Congress in-charge Purna Chandra Padhi and other leaders like Adhiraj
Panigrahi, Sudhir Pattnaik, Santosh Pattnaik, Raju Chhadla and Hiralal Meher
were present.
