Protesting against the prolonged neglect of
the Kosal region by successive Governments of Odisha and demanding formation of
separate Kosal State, members of the Kosal State Coordination Committee
observed a ‘Black Day’ here on Wednesday, the Utkal Divas. A black flag was
hoisted in front of the district Collectorate here and the protestors ripped
the Odisha map into two parts and broke a CD of the song Bande Utkal Janani. A
symbolic funeral procession of Utkal Pradesh was taken out in the town.
The protestors said most parts of the Kosal
region, including Balangir district, were forced to merge with Odisha on April
1, 1948. And since then, it is being exploited and neglected. So, formation of
a separate State would ensure an all-round development of this region, they
said. “We demand formation of a separate Kosal State under Articles 2 and 3 of
the Constitution of India,” said Pramod Mishra of the Kosal State Coordination
Committee.
