Demanding arrest of the main accused in the case of rape of a
minor girl, Tuksi (name changed), of Kumbhari on February 28 and seeking action
against the police officials who are harassing the victim and her mother,
several villagers from Kumbhari, led by president of Balangir Zilla Adivasi
Kalyan Sangh Braja Kishore Singhbhoi, gheraoed the office of the District
Superintendent of Police here on Thursday.
Singhbhoi alleged that the officials of the Tikrapada
police outpost did not accept their complaint. Even the victim was not sent for
medical examination. On approaching the SP, the case was handed over to IIC of
the Saintala police station for investigation.
But, he alleged, the investigation by the Saintala PS IIC
did not provide any justice to the victim. The harassed victim then filed a
complaint in the Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell, which directed the SP to take
appropriate action.
Getting the directive from the CM’s Grievance Cell, SP R
Prakash assigned the case to DSP Niranjan Mishra for investigation and
submission of a report. Meanwhile, the DSP has submitted his inquiry report to
the CM’s office.
“As the accused in the rape case is moving freely, we
gheraoed the SP’s office demanding his arrest and action against the
officer-in-charge of Tikrapada police outpost and the Inspector-in-Charge of
the Saintala police station today,” said Singhbhoi.
“Unless the accused is arrested within seven days, we will
sit on dharna before the SP’s office here,” he threatened.
