Even as the Utkal Divas, the day to mark the birth of a separate
Odisha State, was being observed all over the State with pomp and gaiety on
Sunday, the Kosal Kranti Dal, a regional political outfit observed it as a
“Black Day” demanding a separate ‘Kosal State’ being carved out the existing
State.
The Kosal Kranti Dal held the ‘Black
Day’ all over the western part of the State.
“We are protesting the observation of
Utkal Divas as the Kosal region was forcefully included in Odisha at the time
of the State’s formation. Our culture and language are different from that of
coastal areas. Successive Governments have taken away all the resources from
this region. What have we got? Only poverty and backwardness! A separate Kosal
State is the answer to these injustices done by the successive rulers to this
area,” said president of Kosal Kranti Dal Pramod Mishra, speaking to this
correspondent while staging a dharna before the district Collectorate here.
The activists of the Kosal Kranti
Dal, after staging the dharna putting on black badges, raised slogans against
the Government of Odisha and cut the map of the Odisha State besides burning a
symbolic effigy of the Odisha Administration.
