Members of Balangir District Congress Committee led by president
Bhagbana Bagarti and leaders Hemanta Panda, Renuka Patra and Akash Mishra,
staged a dharna before the District Collectroate here on Wednesday protesting
against the apathy of the State Government in solving the problems of the
district.
Holding a meeting, the speakers criticised the BJD
Government headed by Naveen Patnaik for not taking steps to solve the problems
of the district.
Addressing the gathering, Balangir Mahila Congress
president Renuka Patra rued that the women are not feeling safe to move in the
evening. She also complaint about misbehaviour of the police toward a woman
recently. She flayed the district administration for frequent power failure and
leaks of the HSC question paper and demanded strong action against the culprit.
Later, the Congress leaders submitted a seven-point
memorandum to the Governor through the district administration, including
payment of crop damage compensation of `20,000 per acre due to drought,
immediate payment of crop insurance money to the victim farmers, roll back of
hike in electricity tariff, steps to check irregular power supply, probe into
the alleged irregularities in junior clerk recruitment, action against the
concerned officials, expediting lower Suktel irrigation work and adequate
supply of pipe water to the people.
