Demanding repair of village pond and an end to their water woes,
several residents of Beherapali village under Balangir Municipality
demonstrated before the District Collectorate and staged a Rasta Roko for some
hours on Saturday.
“We want to draw the attention of the district
administration to the water crisis we have been facing in summer over the last
three years. We have intimated the officials in the local administration about
the problem several times but in vain. We demand immediate repair of the embankment
and renovation of our village pond,” said Subashini Suna, a resident of the
village.
The women members are facing a lot of troubles as they
have to go to far-off places to take bath and fetch water, Suna said further.
“Every year in July, some repair works start. The apathy
of the municipality officials towards our problem is really unfortunate,” the
villagers rued.
“I have received the complaint of the villagers. Water
would be supplied through tankers to them,” assured Deputy Collector PK Nayak.
