PROJECT LAUNCHED IN B’NGIR FOR BETTER ACCESS TO GOVT INFO

============================== ============================== ===For better access to information and improving awareness level on different Government schemes among people, a project was launched here last week.
Supported by the European Union (EU) and contributed partly (12 per cent of total fund) by Agragrami, it is implemented in Odisha by ten NGOs.
Implemented in 1,000 villages in 100 gram panchayats in 20 blocks in 10 districts of Odisha, where in the Government officials and public authorities will voluntarily share information on different Government schemes under the RTI Act, the project aims to improve quality of lives of poor local communities in remote tribal pockets by enhancing their participation in local governance.
The thrust is being given on health, nutrition, education, MGNREGS and good governance.
The Government has enacted several development programmes for poor people. The project would go a long way in improving the rural people knowledge on different Government schemes, hoped social activist and Agragramee director Achyut Das.
Balangir Zilla Parishad president Bijaya Pradhani, appreciating the effort of civil society to provide information to people, hoped that rural people would benefit a lot from the project.
The project is now under implementation in two blocks, Belpada and Bongomunda for a period of five years, informed Mukunda Sahu of Balangir Bikas Parishad.
Participated by PRI representatives, members of civil society and SHG members, the meeting held deliberation on issues like RTI Act, poor people getting deprived of benefits under different schemes and the bottlenecks in providing the benefits to all beneficiaries and measures to remove the hurdles.
