NIGHTINGALE AWARD

Padmabati Meher, ANM of the Jogimunda Sub-Centre of Ghashain CHC
in Patnagarh block of Balangir district, would be conferred with the National
Florence Nightingale Award to Nursing Personnel 2014 by President Pranab
Mukherjee at a ceremony in New Delhi on May 12.
The award would be given to her for her safe ‘institutional
deliveries and raising awareness regarding safe institutional delivery’.
Meher conducted safe deliveries of 674 women at the Jogimunda sub-centre from
April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014.

FARMERS VOW TO
PROMOTE TRADITIONAL PADDY SEEDS

In a unique show, farmers of Jamutbahal in
Gaisillet block in Balangir district observed the Akshay Tritiya together on
Friday and resolved to protect, preserve and promote traditional paddy seeds
which are becoming extinct gradually.
President of Desi Bihan Suraksha Samiti Santanu Singh first
worshipped Mother Earth and started Akhi Muthi (sowing the first seed).Later,
as many as 30 pairs of bullocks were brought there from the villages of
Jamutbahal, Jadamunda, Gondpali, Sandhibahal and Dhauraakhaman and the
villagers ploughed the land.The farmers in the presence of Siba Prasad Sahu of
the Ahinsha Club and Mukhi Meher of the Lok Bikash Sangathan vowed to preserve
and protect traditional paddy seeds and popularise them through cultivation in
their area.
