The election to the two left out Urban Local Bodies (ULBs),
Balangir and Titilagarah Minicipality, would be held on July 1. A notification
to this effect was issued by the State Election Commission (SEC) on Monday.
Announcing the poll
schedule for the two ULBs, State Election Commissioner Ajit Kumar Tripathy said
the filing of nomination would continue from June 9 and 13 and the papers would
be scrutinized on June 16. The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers
has been fixed is June 19, he said.
Informing that polls
would be conducted on July 1, Tripathy said counting of votes and publication
of results would be held on July 2.
The Chairman elections
would be conducted on July 11, he informed. An estimated 82, 000 voters would
elect 21 Ward Members for Balangir Municipality and 23,600 electorates would
elect 15 Ward Members for the Titilagarah Municipality.
Notably, Titilagarah
NAC was upgraded to Municipality just before the announcement of the general
election-2014.
Though the elections
for the ULBs were announced on 12 August, 2013, the elections to 22 ULBs in
Western Odisha were postponed following lawyers resorted to agitations
demanding permanent bench of High Court in the region.
The SEC further
postponed the polls for Balangir and Titilagarh in November 2013 as local
people boycotted polls to press for setting up a HC bench in Balangir.
