Protesting against the
anti-tribal policies and activities of the State Government, thousands of
tribals coming from different parts of the State held a massive traditional
rally under the banner of the Odisha Adivasi Kalyan Mahasangh (OAKM) at the
Lower PMG here on Thursday.
The Mahasangh strongly demanded dismissal of fake ST employees
from Government jobs, educational institutions and elective posts and their
arrest under the Atrocity Act. It also demanded arrest of the concerned
tehsildars who are involved in the conspiracy.
The Odisha Adivasi Kalyan Mahasangh (OAKM) suggested that ST
certificate be issued on the basis of recommendations of the heads of the
concerned tribal societies of the areas. The OAKM demanded implementation of
the Central PESA Act, 1996 and the Forest Rights Act, 2006 in their true
spirit. OAKM general secretary Niranjan Bishi said the community ownership
right over minor forest produces, including Kendu leaf and bamboo, should be
immediately ensured by the Government.
The outfit strongly opined that the Tribal Sub-Plan (TPS) fund
exclusively meant for tribals' development should not in any case be diverted
for any other purposes and the Integrated Action Plan Fund (IAPF) should be
spent based on the local plans devised by the tribals themselves.
A delegate of nine tribal leaders of different districts met the
Governor and discussed about various tribal issues and submitted a memorandum
having a 31-point charter of demands.
