Hoisting
of black flag, burning of symbolic effigy of the Government of Odisha and
tearing up of Odisha’s map by members of the Kosal Kranti Dal (KKD) marked the
celebration of the Utkal Divas here on Monday.
Even as the official
celebration of the day was observed at a meeting in the Town Hall, KKD members
led by its president Pramod Mishra opposed the celebration and carried the
“dead body” of the Odisha Government throughout the town.
Earlier in the evening,
Panchanan Pattnaik of the KKD hoisted a black flag before the district
Collectorate and Gorekhnath Sahu of the party tore up and burnt the Odisha map
at the Bhagirathi Chowk.
Addressing the gathering,
Pramod Mishra said, “Our region Kosalanchal was once a prosperous area. Our
misery started ever since the merger of Kosal with Odisha.
Resources from this area
have been taken away and used for development of the people of the coastal
area. Since last two decades we have been demanding formation of separate Kosal
State. We demand formation of a separate Kosal State under Articles 2 and 3 of
the Constitution. Our boycott of Utkal Divas will continue in future.”
