A day after being arrested on Tuesday, about 70 members of Budi Anchal Sangram Parishad, an organisation spearheading the campaign against the Lower Suktel Irrigation Project in Balangir, launched fast-unto-death on Wednesday. However, the construction of spillway work continued peacefully.
"When the villagers tried to breach the police cordon and approach the restricted area, ten of them were taken into preventive custody," informed Balangir SP Ravi Prakash.
The villager had been arrested on Tuesday while staging protests at the project site alleging that they were not informed regarding the construction of the dam.
