Many farmers, who brought their paddy to
the Mandi opened by the NAFED at Tusra, 40 km from here, faced an ordeal as
around 10 kg of paddy per quintal was deducted on the ground of low grade and
having moisture content.
“We had brought our paddy to the Mandi and been waiting there since
Thursday. The Regulated Market Committee (RMC) and the MARKFED officials, after
checking the paddy, decided to deduct one and a half to two kg of the stock
towards low quality and having moisture content. However, all of a sudden on
Friday, they decided to deduct as much as 10 kg of paddy on such grounds. We
believe there is an unholy nexus between millers and officials alleged,
Prafulla, a farmer.
“We appraised the situation to the district Collector, who in his turn,
advised us to sell our paddy to the MARKFED and not to give it to millers,
Prafulla said further.
Collector Debraj Mishra told this correspondent, “All the procuring
agencies have been asked to procured FAQ (Fair Average Quality) paddy after
analysis and grading after getting it from farmers without involving any
millers.”
