Members
of the Balangir Zilla Krushak Mahasangh led by its president Sudhir Parischha
and Jati Pradhan on Wednesday staged a demonstration before the district
Collectorate here.
They
have been demanding declaration of bonus of Rs300 per quintal of paddy and
measures to streamline the paddy procurement system in the district.
Moreover,
they also demanded that paddy up to 10 quintals should be purchased in the
Mandi itself and immediate payment should be made to farmers, Parischha said.
“The token system introduced in the Mandis by the PACs (Primary Agriculture
Cooperative Societies) should be stopped and a total of 3,000 quintals of paddy
should be procured daily there,” he said further.
Later,
the leaders of Mahasangh submitted a memorandum to the Governor through the
district administration.
