activists led by general secretary Akash Mishra, Odisha in charge Roshan
Gaikward, MLAs Santosh Singh Saluja, Surendra Singh Bhoi and Sangram Jena took
out a huge rally in Balangir town, demanding declaration Rs300 bonus per
quintal of paddy to the farmers.
“It is unfortunate that though the Central Government is
providing lots of assistance to the State, the benefits are not reaching the
masses. The Government should give a bonus Rs300 per quintal of paddy and
enhance MSP for paddy to Rs1,550 per quintal,” said Gaikward.
In recent past, the Youth Congress held a big rally against the
Government in the State.
It is planning another big rally in the State capital ahead for
fulfillment of various demands benefitting the poor farmers of the State, added
Gaikward.
“We have nine demands, including early completion of lower
Suktel project and compensation to displaced people, opening of mandi in each
panchayat, punishment to official responsible for excluding farmers from
insurance coverage and adequate compensation to farmers for damage to their
crop due to pest attack,” Akash Mishra clarified and said that the Government
should take early steps to fulfill them.
Among others, Balangir District Congress president Bhagaban
Bagarti, Asima Mahananda and many other Congress leaders spoke. Earlier, the
Congress leaders and activists met the agitating activists of the Lower Suktel
Action Committee who are demanding early
implementation of the project and expressed solidarity
