Demanding setting up of an agriculture university in Balangir,
college students, representatives of different organisations and public at
large of the town participated in a human chain held here on Friday, which
started from the main Post Office to the Government Bus-Stand. “We are staging
the human chain to press for fulfilment of our demand for setting up an
agriculture university in Balangir.
Ever since merger of Balangir in Odisha State, we have been
losing a lot. All the major institutions are being set up outside Balangir. It
is satisfying that today people cutting across political lines have come out in
support of the demand for setting up an agriculture university here,” said
Pramod Mishra of the Krishi Vishwavidyalaya Kriyanusthan Committee.
“Unless the Government fulfils our demand, we will intensify our
agitation in future and a delegation will go to Bhubaneswar to meet Chief
Minister Naveen Patnaik on the issue,” Mishra said. It may be noted that
Balangir MP Kalikesh Singh Deo, Rajya Sabha member AU Singh Deo, Balangir MLA
Narasingha Mishra, Loisingha MLA Jogendra Behera, Titilagrah MLA Tukuni Sahu
and Kantabanji MLA Ayub Khan have also demanded setting up of an agriculture
university in Balangir on several occasions earlier.
