‘MAKE EFFORTS TO PRESERVE BALANGIR ARTS, CULTURE’

All-out
efforts should be made to preserve the arts and culture in our area so that
they would not be lost in oblivion. And the Balangir Lok Utsav is providing a
platform to local dance and drama artists to display their talents. This was
observed by speakers on the first day of the annual festival here on
Sunday. Minister of Housing and Urban Development Pushpendra Singh Deo
appreciated the efforts of the organisers of such a cultural programme and
hoped that the festival would go a long way in promoting the rich arts and
culture of the area.

informed that a walkway project for the Kosal Kalamandal has been sanctioned.
Moreover, for beautification of Balangir town, a city forest plan is on the
anvil. The Forest Department would give land for the proposed city forest,
where there would be facility for people to relax in natural surroundings. “I
am ready to support any party, be it Congress, BJP and any other, if they work
for development of Balangir, said Singh Deo.
Film director Sabyasachi Mahaptra,
addressing the gathering, said late Balangir Maharaja and Chief Minister
Rajedra Narayan Singh Deo was a Chhou dancer, played football with people,
established the printing press, x-ray machine and drafted the constitution of
the Kosal Kalamandal for development of arts and culture.
Among
others, Patnagarh MLA KV Singh Deo, district Collector M Muthukumar and SP Dr
Deepak Kumar and Zilla Parishad President Bijay Pradhani spoke on the
occasion. A souvenir of the festival was released and artist of film Sala
Budha Atal Panda and others were felicitated. Dhamesa dance, Jodi Shankha
and many other cultural shows were displayed on the first day.
