Congress
members and supporters on Wednesday took out a procession in the town and
staged a dharna before the district Collectorate demanding a CBI inquiry into
fraudulent activities of non-banking financial companies and unincorporated
bodies.
They also demanded disclosure of names of
the Ministers and ruling BJD MLAs involved in the chit fund scam as indicated
by AT Group CMD Pradip Sethy and initiation of criminal proceedings against
them.
"We demand attachment of
ill-gotten of properties of the tainted chit fund entities, and the State
Government should make immediate provision to return the money of
depositors," said former MP from Balangir Sarat Pattanaik.
Among others, Kantabanji MLA Santosh Singh
Saluja, Saintala MLA Surendra Singhbhoi, Congress observer Sujit Padhee,
president of Youth Congress unit of Balangir
Lok Sabha Constituency Akash Mishra,
District Congress Committee president Bhagaban Bagarti, who also spoke at the
rally, demanded strong action against the MLAs and Ministers involved in the
chit fund scam. Senior party leaders Radhakanta Panda and Suryabhanu Mishra
also addressed the meeting.
The leaders called upon party workers to
strengthen the Congress' base at the grassroots level so that the Naveen
Patnaik-led BJD Government is ousted in the forthcoming elections.
