Members
and supporters of the Kosal Kranti Dal (KKD) on Saturday blocked the National
Highways in Balangir and Sambalpur districts for one hour from 12 noon in
support of their demand for carving out a separate State of Kosal from the
existing jurisdiction of Odisha.
The KKD’s stir was
boosted by the Central Government’s decision to form a Telangana State
bifurcating Andhra Pradesh. In Balangir, the token Rasta Roko agitation was led
KKD leaders Pramod Mishra, Abdul Zamal Khan, Dolamani Pradhan and Prabhas
Mishra. The National Highway-57 was blocked at Puintala and the NH-26 at
Sambalpur Road.
Pramod Mishra told the
media, “The Rasta Roko programme was held in the entire ‘Kosalanchal’ demanding
a separate Kosal State.” He added that the KKD has given a call for an
indefinite agitation in support of its demand. “Rail Roko, bandhs and other
forms of agitation will continue till the demand for Kosal State is achieved,”
he told reporters at Puintala.
