activists led by Ajay Das burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here
on Saturday as a symbol of their protests against the State Government’s
inaction towards atrocities on women during the Odisha Bandh called by the BJP
in the wake of the death of the Kendrapada rape victim.
Shops and other business
establishments, banks and Post Offices remained closed. Buses were off the
roads, train services were not affected. BJP workers and supporters staged a
demonstration before the district Collectorate. In Belpada and Bongomunda in
the district, normal life was also affected due to the bandh with almost all
institutions and business establishments remaining closed. According to
reports, the bandh too affected normal life in different parts of Subarnapur
district.
