B’NGIR MURDER: SEVEN OF KILLER FAMILY HELD
Tuesday, 16 July 2013 | PNS | BALANGIR | in Bhubaneswar
At least seven persons of Majhi family were arrested by the Balangir Sadar police on Monday for killing five members of their neighbour Thappa family over a land dispute at Thapapalli in the district on Sunday.
According to the police, members of the Majhi family were well prepared to kill their rivals on the day. They had observed a small worship in the morning before going to the field for agricultural operation. However, they got irritated after finding the Thappa family members ploughing the disputed land.
The Majhis had a dispute with the Thappas over the last panchayat elections. Nothing could be a more opportune moment to settle the old score. The Majhis launched a combined attack on the Thappas with sharp weapons and killed Ramel Thappa and his four sons, Jagdish, Kapil, Purna and Madras on the spot, police said.
Balangir Additional SP Prafulla Kumar Patra said Akadashia Majhi, a member of the Majhi family, had been murdered by the Thappas during the last panchayat elections. To take revenge, the Majhis swooped down on their rivals and subsequently killed them on the spot, police added.
