The Baruna tree

The Baruna tree
This is Baruna tree. Crataeva magna.
In Balangir it grows wild in many place and it use to have such typical pointed leaves. I have seen it growing around Rajendra Park, Gandhi Statue compound near Sanskrit college andother areas.

  1. Baruna is named Asmarighna (killer of kidney stone) . If you take decoction of its bark for about 2 months kidney or urinary bladder stone gets dissolved and goes out through urinary tract. But it is having no effect on Gall bladder stone.

In the texts of Hydrology of ancient India Baruna has been mentioned as an indicator of source of subsurface water. It means if you dig a well near a Baruna tree you are definite to get plenty of water within ten feet depth.
