SUDHIR MISHRA N
BALANGIR
HITS: 54
Acting on a tip-off, a 10-member team of the Central Investigation
Bureau (CBI) led by DK Pradhan from Bhubneswar nabbed Branch Manager of UCO
Bank, Balangir, Pramod Kumar Mahapatra, while he was accepting bribe of `9,000
from one Achuyt Majhi on Thursday here.
According to reports, a sum of `4.5
lakh had been sanctioned for Majhi from the bank under the PMEGP scheme and an
amount of `2.80 lakh had already been disbursed to him. However to get the
remaining amount of `67,000, the bank manager allegedly demanded `9,000 from
Majhi to clear his cheque. The bank manager had told him to give the money to
one Pradeep Kumar Mishra who was working as a Livestock Inspector at Bhaler.
But while the money was given to
Mahapatra, the CBI sleuths caught him red-handed and also arrested the bank
manager. The CBI team also searched the residences of the Livestock Inspector
and the bank manager and the bank branch office.
Later, the CBI team took both the
accused to Bhubneshwar after keeping them at the BSNL guesthouse here for some
time.
