A workshop on legal rights, skill upgradation and opportunities
for migrant labourers was held at Kholan, 80 km from here, last week.
A skilled worker is what an employer looks for than an
ordinary labour and hence, it is necessary that local youth who are vulnerable
to distress migration should be trained, opined Pradeep Mahaptra of UDYAM.
He said it would check migration and gave a brief idea
about UDYAM’s effort to provide different skill upgradation training to the
migrant labourers in Jharkhandand and other States across India.
Anuj Jha of PANIIT, Jharkhand, spoke in details about the
training, employment, loan and other facilities available for the migrant
labourers.
District Labour Officer Pradeep Kumar Bhoi explained
various provisions of Labour Act and the policies of the State Government for
the benefits of the migrant labourers.
Speaking on the occasion, Balangir correspondent of The
Pioneer Sudhir Mishra stressed on optimum utilisation of different Government
schemes, payment to labourers in time, training facilities, maintenance of
record at panchyat level and better coordination among States to streamline
migration.
Migrant labourers narrated how they are lured by the
agents and are forced to work for long hours. Local PRI representatives shared their
experience too.
