Director General of Police Sanjeev Marik along with
IG (Operations) Soumendra Priyadarshi, ADG (Intelligence) Sunil Roy and DIG
(Northern Range) Prateek Mahanty visited the Maoist-affected Sunabeda area of
Nuapada district on Wednesday to review the situation.
Marik flew to Sunabeda in a helicopter from
Bhubaneswar and visited different villages of the plateau on motorcycle and
interacted with locals on different issues of the area. He informed that
efforts are on to set up a CRPF base camp in Balangir district. He further
stated that anti-Maoist operations would be intensified in the western Odisha
in better coordination among SPs.
Addressing a Press meet here, the DG said, “The
situation has now changed, people have lost faith in Maoists as they are coming
in development’s way.”
Earlier at Balangir, Marik told mediapersons that
SPs districts like Sonepur, Boudh, Bargarh andNuapada have been specially
trained to tackle Maoist challenges in an effective way.
Marik also said the number of Maoists has reduced to
a greater extend due to the presence of the forces in the plateau. There is a
better coordination between the CRPF and the police force now to face the Red
rebels. “Developmental efforts in the affected area will be given a priority. I
will discuss with the Government in this regard,” added Marik.
