After remaining silent for over a
year, Maoists in Balangir district asserted their presence by burning a country
liquor Bhati on Friday night at Telenpali village under Khaprakhol block.
According to reports, around 20 Maoists came to the liquor Bhati and told the
employees to come out of the Bhati before setting it afire. The Maoist left
posters of Balangir-Bargarh-Mahasamund Division there. They warned the
employees of the country liquor Bhati not to restart the liquor centre there or
else face dire consequence. Property worth of around Rs40-50 lakh was gutted.
The Maoists also took away cash of Rs1.5 lakh from the liquor Bhati owner.
Their leaflets opposed liquor policy and other measures of the Government.
Contacted, Balangir SP Dr Deepak Kumar said efforts are on to trace the group
involved in the incident.
