Member of Parliament
(RajyaSabha) SriAU singhdeo has urged the chief Minister NaveenPattnaik to set
up an agriculture university in the Balangir. In a letter written to Chief
Minister Sri Singhdeo points out that Bolangir is one of the backward districts
of Odisha and also belongs to the KBK region of the State. The per capita
income of the people of Bolangir district is very low. Agriculture, being the
main source of income for the people of this district, there is a need for some
proactive initiative from the Government for development of Agriculture
Farmers need to have
knowledge on use of modern technology to upgrade their farming activity and
making it a profitable livelihood. Odisha, having just one Agriculture
University, needs at least one more university for Agriculture. The Biju Janata
Dal manifesto also promises to set up one Agriculture University in KBK
districts. I believe, Bolangir representing the backward and western Odisha
districts, is the most suitable place for a second Agriculture University, points
out the letter further
Moreover, Bolangir
is also backward from the point of view of technical education, while nearby
districts have been benefitted with several Government technical colleges. Kalahandi has Engineering and a Medical
College. Sambalpur has a University, Medical College and an Engineering
College. Bargarh too has an Engineering College. However, Bolangir still has
none, points out the letter further
Hence appropriate initiatives
for setting up a second Agriculture University at Bolangir be taken, points out
the letter of AU Singhdeo further. ================================================
