PHAILIN: ONE KILLED IN B’NGIR WALL COLLAPSE

One
died and two others were injured in
Karnapali village under Sadar police station limits here due to collapse
of mud walls of a house under the impact of cyclone Phailin.
Besides, normal
life in the town was affected by the strong wind
and rain since Saturday last. Thedistrict
administration had geared up its machinery and put them on
readiness to deal with situation, after receiving a message on Saturday evening
that Phailin was expected to sweep through the town. According to official
sources, a total of 60mm rainfall was recorded in Balangir on Sunday.
The
rainfall caused havoc to the standing paddy crops which had already
ripened. The farmers were now worried as the ripen paddy crops and the
yards to keep the crops after harvest had grown wet.
