With a view
to provide nutritious and natural leaves and other items to people from their
own backyard, plants containing several vitamins were distributed among
villagers of Dudumdhara and Chhanchan Bahali villages in Khprakhol block in
Balangir district jointly by Gandhmardan Action Committee (GAC) and RCDC here
on Saturday last.
A total of
1,500 species, which include multi-vitamin plants, bamboo, and Phasi varieties
were distributed. Notably, Phasi wood is required for making chariot of Lord
Jagannath. “We distributed multivitamin plants, whose leaves contain vitamin
A, B, C, D and iron among the villagers to grow them in their own backyard,
rather than in forest. Similarly, Phasi plants were distributed for meeting the
shortage of wood for making chariots during the Car Festival,” said an RCDC
official.
According to
sources, Dudumdoroh villagers have been guarding their village forest for last
few decades. They have identified more than 128 eco
sensitive spots under Ecosystem Alliance Programme and also preserved
41varities of extinct plants in Gandhmardarn region.
