The statement of Director of Rehabilitation and Resettlement
in the Water Resources Department Suresh Kumar Pant during his visit to
Padampur, on Thursday that people in the Lower Suktel Project area are
agitating even after getting compensation is misleading and unfortunate, said
Samajwadi Party (SP) district president Arun Mishra in a Press release.
“Till today the Government has not given adequate compensation
to the displaced people, nor has it ensured their proper rehabilitation. Only a
few have received partial compensation. In 12 years, the Government has kept
the project hanging, while the project cost has touched Rs 1,041 crore from Rs
217 crore. Although Rs 380 crore has been spent, financial irregularities to
the tune of Rs 100 crore have been detected by an audit,” Mishra informed. Even
though people are ready to leave their home, they have not been given adequate
compensation. The Government should do something positive by providing adequate
compensation and proper rehabilitation in lieu of their land, Mishra suggested.
