BALANGIR
HITS: 40
A Maoist camp was destroyed and some explosive
materials were seized by the police after a fierce encounter with the ultras in
a forest in Balangir district on Sunday.
The exchange of fire took
place when a police team was conducting a combing operation in the Banjipali
forest following intelligence input about Maoists’ presence there. As the
ultras fled from the scene into dense forests after the gun-battle, their camp was
destroyed by the police.
Some Maoists were
believed to have been injured in the encounter. Explosives including gelatine
sticks, detonators and tiffin bombs were recovered from the site. Other seized
materials included tents and Maoist literature, the police said.
A massive combing
operation and patrolling were launched by the security forces in the area after
the encounter.
