Members of the
Gandhmardarn Suraksha Action Committee led by Tikendra Jal staged an indefinite
dharna before the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Harishankar, 80 km from here,
demanding appointment of permanent doctors and other medical staff at the
health centre.
“Earlier, we had
given notice to the Government to appoint permanent doctors at the PHC, but our
demands are yet to be fulfilled,” said action committee president Tikendra Jal
“The Ayurvedic
hospital here also urgently needs more doctors to be recruited as a number of
posts are lying vacant. The doctors, who are appointed at the PHC, are not
coming regularly for their duties. This being a malaria-infested area, there
should be a proper testing centre of the disease here,” said Jal.
Villagers of
Nandupala, Bhanpur, Bhaunrapadar, Rengali, Telenpali gram panchayats mostly
depend on this PHC. It is also a Maoist-affected area, said Balangir zila
parishad member Sushil Guru.
