Demanding setting up of a railway
wagon factory at Kantabanji in Balangir district, establishment of up a
hospital by the Railways and early completion of the construction of
Khurda-Balangir railway line, members of the Youth Congress led by its Balangir
Assembly committee president Prem Prakash Mishra staged Rail Roko agitation at
the Balangir railway station on Sunday morning. The agitators detained the
Tapaswini Express for some time.
Mishra told the media, “Today, we
held Rail Roko demanding setting up of a railway wagon factory at Kantabanji
which was announced by the then Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Unfortunately, the factory is being set up in Ganjam district. Besides this, we
also demand setting up of a hospital by the railway authorities and completion
of the Khurda-Balangir railway line on a war footing.”
The Youth Congress activists
submitted a memorandum to the Railway Minister through a local railway
official. ”I have received a memorandum containing various demands and would
refer it to the higher authorities for further action,” said railway official
Pankaj Chowhan to mediapersons.
