Effigies of Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi were burnt by BJD activists here on
Monday in protest against the hike in price of diesel and restriction in supply
of subsidised cooking gas.
The agitators demanded immediate rollback of the diesel price
upward revision and withdrawal of the restriction on LPG cylinder supply. The
demonstration before the District Collectorate was led by BJD district
vice-president Bhavani Hota, Keshab Bedbag, Harekrushna Sarangi, Ashok Rath and
PB Mathews.
Balangir MP Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo said the hike in diesel
price and capping of supply of subsidised cooking gas is another step by the
UPA Government that would hit the people at a time when they are already hit
hard by inflation.
Bedbag said that each consumer should be supplied at least 12
subsidised LPG cylinders in a year rather than capping the limit to six.
