Members of the Odisha Sales Representatives Union (OSRU) in
Balangir, led by their president Surulal Matari and secretary Saroj Kumar Meher
on Wednesday took out a procession in the town and submitted a 10-point charter
of demands to the State Labour and Employment Minister through the district
Collector.
The main demands of the OSRU included
enforcement of all provisions of the Sales Promotion Employees (Condition of
Service) Act – 1976, suspension of sales promotion activities in Odisha for
non-compliance of the Act, amendment of Section 2 (S) of the Industrial
Disputes Act1-947 to include all sales promotion employees within the
definition of ‘workman’, fixing of minimum wage of Rs 10, 000 per month for all
sales promotion employees, declaration of May Day as public holiday under the
Negotiable Instruments Act.
It also included notification for
eight hours of work in a day from 11 am to 7 pm with usual break for lunch and
administrative work from 2 pm to 4 pm, issue of photo identify card to sales
employees, right to work in hospitals, medical colleges and research
institutions and compulsory maternity leave for women sales employees.
