Even as the State Government claims of providing employment to the
poor and marginalised people through its various labour-intensive programmes,
including MGNREGA, yet reports of poor families from Balangir district
migrating outside States like Andhra Pradesh are pouring in at regular
intervals.
And after migration and working for a
few months, the migrants are sending appeals for their rescue because of harsh
working conditions, torture and exploitation there.
According to reports, Narendra Kalet
(45) of Sargul village in Muribahal block, along with his wife Gopla (42) and
three children Sanjay, Jyoti and Muni had migrated to Urmila village under the
Pathanjore police station in Medhak district of Andhra Pradesh through a labour
Sardar (agent) of Patnagarh, Amar Bariha, in 2009 to work in a brick kiln
there. When the family wanted to return, the brick kin owner allegedly refused
to leave them. The family is working in the brick kiln without any break.
Meanwhile, Sanjay, one of the sons of
Narendra, narrated their tales of exploitation and heavy work and lack of rest
in the brick kiln and requested his uncle over phone to rescue them.
The condition of the family could be
well imagined if it stays in a brick kiln for three long years. While the Right
to Education Act envisages free education to all children in the age group of
6-14, staying for three years deprives Narendra’s sons of education. The family
should be rescued immediately and necessary steps should be taken to provide
education to the children, said Bhajamran Sahu of the Jan Mukti Anusthan (JMA).
