Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday announced a new scheme to benefit the Kendu leaf binders most of whom are tribals and poor.
Under the new scheme, mosquito nets, lanterns and blankets would be distributed free of cost among the genuine Kendu leaf binders.
The new initiative would benefit an estimated 18,000 tribal and poor families.
Patnaik asked the Forest Department officials to provide these essential materials to the Kendu leaf binders in the presence of elected representatives of the locality, BDOs and tehsildars.
The materials should be procured locally, Patnaik said.
