PNS | Bhubaneswar
Balangir-based Bijayananda Cooperative Sugar Mills Ltd (BCSML) has
planned to sell clean power generated from molasses to Grid Corporation
and export quality sugar, by setting up a refinery and make the unit
viable. BCSML chairman Jangeswar Babu told newsmen here on Friday that
the sugar mill would become the first ever in the country to export
surplus power generated from non-conventional sources and the mill has
planned to sign a MoU with the Grid Corporation of Odisha to sale its
surplus power.
He also said that the mill has now a non-conventional energy power
plant with a generation capacity of 3 MW clean power. After
upgradation, the capacity of the plant would go up to 3.5 MW. The mill,
which requires 2.5 MW of power for its own consumption, would sale the
surplus power to the Gridco.
The capacity of the plant would be increased to 14 MW in the next three
years and the mill is expected to earn Rs 80,000- one lakh per day from
the sale of the surplus power, he said. In a bid to expand the
production capacity and provide more mandays to its workers, he said
BCSML has targeted to raise cane area to 5,000 acres of land in 2011-12
and has planned to crush 60,000 tons of cane during the crushing season
2010-11.
In 2009-10, the mill had made sugarcane plantation on 2,182.60 acres of
land and crushed 11,852 tons of cane, he informed. The mill has already
set up machineries at an investment of Rs 20 crores for refining the
raw sugar and would start operation next month.
