Member of Parliament from Balangir Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo has expressed concern over the crop situation in the district arising out of the drought conditions this year.
The district had also experienced drought in previous years, but this year the crop situation is likely to surpass even the worst years of drought of past, said Singh Deo speaking to The Pioneer on Thursday.
“I visited drought-affected areas of Bongomonda, Saintala and Titilagarh blocks a few days ago and reviewed the crop situation with officials there. I stressed the need for repair of defunct tube-wells and making arrangements for farmers to take up Rabi crops wherever possible,” said Singh Deo. “Besides this, I also stressed on the need of early completion of paddy crop loss on the basis of eye estimation to get a preliminary assessment of the crop scenario in the district,” he added.
